The Inspiring Rise of Abhay Bhutada and His Impact Beyond Business

Not all stories of success make noise. Some evolve steadily, built on years of thoughtful work and quiet confidence. Abhay Bhutada’s journey is one of those. In the financial year 2023–24, Abhay Bhutada’s salary stood at Rs 241.21 crore, making him the highest-paid executive in India. But that figure is just a part of a much larger picture—one shaped by effort, trust, and a clear sense of purpose.

A Modest Start

Abhay Bhutada

Abhay Bhutada was born and raised in Latur, Maharashtra. Like many from small towns, he carried big dreams but kept his approach simple. He studied commerce at Symbiosis International University and later became a Chartered Accountant. These early choices laid the groundwork for a career in finance—but more importantly, they gave him clarity on how he wanted to work: with patience, discipline, and intent.

Learning on the Job

His professional career began in 2010 with the Bank of India. Working in the SME Finance division, Bhutada got to see how everyday businesses operated and what challenges they faced. It wasn’t always smooth—many businesses struggled with limited access to capital and outdated systems.

These lessons stayed with him. They made him think about solutions that could improve these systems, especially through technology.

An Entrepreneurial Turn

In 2016, Bhutada founded TAB Capital Limited, a digital lending company aimed at simplifying access to loans for small businesses and individuals. At the time, digital finance was still a developing space, but he saw a clear opportunity.

By designing systems that were faster, paperless, and more transparent, he helped introduce a new way of lending—one that was more efficient and more in tune with what borrowers needed.

He eventually became a key part of the Poonawalla Group’s growth strategy, applying the same principles: keep things straightforward, focus on what matters, and don’t lose sight of execution.

The Pay That Turned Heads

Abhay Bhutada’s salary in FY 2023–24—Rs 241.21 crore—was more than just a headline. It was a result of delivering real results. That figure represented 7.66% of total revenue and 14.33% of profit for the company he was then leading.

Today, his net worth is estimated to have crossed Rs 1,000 crore. But what's more telling than the numbers is what he’s doing with that position and influence.

Giving It Back with Intention

In 2023, Bhutada established the Abhay Bhutada Foundation—his personal initiative aimed at creating long-term change in the field of education. One of its major efforts is the LearnByDoing project, created in partnership with Sakar Eduskills.

The program provides STEM learning kits to government school students in Pune. These kits include tools like microscopes, periscopes, and other hands-on materials that make science and mathematics easier to grasp. More than 2,000 students across eight schools have already been part of this effort, and feedback shows clear improvements in student interest and classroom engagement.

It’s a simple but powerful approach—give students the tools to explore, and they’ll want to learn more.

Aligning with India’s Direction

Abhay Bhutada’s work doesn’t exist in isolation. After the 2025 Union Budget was announced, he shared his support for many of the priorities—like boosting infrastructure, investing in research and development, and improving connectivity.

Abhay Bhutada Foundation

The government’s push towards inclusive growth echoes the areas he’s working in, both in business and through the foundation. From promoting electric mobility to improving education, the overlap is clear.

What Sets Him Apart

In a world where everyone is rushing to scale, Bhutada focuses on solving. He doesn’t build noise around his achievements. He listens, observes, and then acts. Whether it’s understanding what a borrower actually needs or identifying how a student might better understand a science concept—his style is thoughtful, not loud.

That mindset has helped him build trust. It has also allowed him to move consistently, even if the spotlight wasn’t always on him.

A Measured Approach to Leadership

Success came to Abhay Bhutada gradually, but each step was intentional. He chose to stay grounded in what he believed in—technology that simplifies, ideas that serve, and actions that leave something better behind.

Today, as he continues to expand the foundation’s work and stay involved in long-term business initiatives, the goal remains the same: create meaningful outcomes.

More Than Numbers

There’s no doubt that Abhay Bhutada’s salary in 2023–24 drew attention. But the journey behind it, and what followed, says a lot more. It shows that success doesn’t need to be loud to be effective. It also proves that when you combine skill with sincerity, real impact is possible.

His path is a reminder that some of the most solid foundations are built quietly—and they last.
