LearnByDoing: Turning Theory into Real Learning

One of the standout efforts by the Abhay Bhutada Foundation is the LearnByDoing initiative. Many schools in the rural areas of Pune district face the same challenge — they lack basic science labs, leaving students to depend only on textbooks. LearnByDoing changes this by bringing practical science kits right into classrooms that have never had such resources before.

Through this program, more than 2,000 students in villages such as Kelgaon, Bahul, Thakarwadi and Dhanore have received hands-on learning kits. These include items like microscopes and small working models that make it possible for students to try experiments themselves. Teachers say students are more curious and participative when they get to see and handle real tools. It is often the first time these young minds see a microscope, and it gives them a new way to imagine what studying science can be beyond books.

Scholarships to Ease the Financial Burden

Education costs are one of the biggest hurdles for bright students from middle or low-income families. The Abhay Bhutada Foundation, together with the Maheshwari Vidya Pracharak Mandal (MVPM), took a big step to ease this worry by awarding scholarships to students in October 2024. Each scholarship was worth ₹1 lakh — a significant amount for any family handling the cost of higher education.

Twenty-five students received the benefit, with ten selected for their strong academic records and fifteen chosen based on financial need. The clear goal was to ensure that talent and need are both supported equally. For parents, it means relief from the heavy pressure of rising fees. For students, it opens up a path to keep learning without interruptions. For Bhutada, these scholarships prove that when the right help comes at the right time, it can make the difference between a young person dropping out or moving forward.

Shivsrushti: Making Heritage Reach Every Family

The Foundation’s work also includes projects that help people connect with their roots. In May 2025, it donated ₹51 lakh to Shivsrushti, Asia’s biggest historical theme park built in honour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This unique site in Pune uses modern technology and creative displays to bring the story of Shivaji Maharaj and the Maratha empire to life for visitors of all ages.

The donation was used to reduce the park’s ticket prices to just ₹50 for a period of two months. Families who could never afford to visit before now had the chance to step into this carefully designed world of history. School trips, family outings and community group visits saw a big rise during this time. This move reflected Bhutada’s belief that heritage is everyone’s to enjoy — it should never feel out of reach because of high ticket prices.
